Richa Ghosh Shines as RCB Achieves Record WPL Run Chase
Richa Ghosh delivered a sensational performance, smashing an unbeaten 64 off just 27 balls to help Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secure the highest-successful run chase in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history. Her explosive batting display led RCB to a six-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants (GG), kickstarting their title defense in grand fashion.
Ellyse Perry Lauds Richa Ghosh’s Match-Winning Knock
Veteran all-rounder Ellyse Perry showered praise on Richa Ghosh, calling her performance “pretty awesome to watch.” Richa, who was dropped on zero, made GG pay by hammering 23 runs off Ashleigh Gardner in the 16th over, turning the tide in RCB’s favor.
“Richa plays with incredible poise and calmness. Every time the ball comes her way, she clears the rope effortlessly. That was an amazing way to finish the game,” said Perry in a video posted on the tournament’s official X account.
Kanika Ahuja’s Cameo Adds to RCB’s Dominance
Left-handed all-rounder Kanika Ahuja also made an impact, smashing an unbeaten 30 off just 13 balls. Her quickfire innings, combined with Richa’s fireworks, resulted in a stunning 93-run partnership off just 37 balls for the fifth wicket.
“It was fantastic to see Kanika perform so well after missing last season due to injury. She made an immediate impact, which was superb for the team,” Perry added.
Ellyse Perry’s Contribution and Fielding Lapse
Perry played a crucial role in setting up the chase, scoring 57 runs. However, she surprised many by dropping a catch off Deandra Dottin.
“Dropping catches is part of the game. No one intends to, but there’s always another opportunity to contribute,” she stated.
More High-Scoring Chases Expected in WPL 2025
Perry believes WPL 2025 will see several high-scoring run chases. “This is just the beginning. There will be more big chases this season. We had the best batting conditions, and we made the most of them,” she said.
With RCB’s impressive start, fans can expect more thrilling performances. Their next challenge will be against Delhi Capitals in Vadodara on February 17.
